If you’re lazy, it often means only that you are a real person and not a robot, and sometimes you want just to slow down the pace and intensity of work. Sometimes you just need to get up and start doing what is necessary at this time. In fact, we overcome laziness by our willpower. However, it happens that laziness takes exaggerated form, and it is necessary to stop, reflect on its causes and to take an effective tool to correct it. Let’s consider every reason in more detail.
Lack of motivation
This is probably the most popular sign of laziness. A typical example of this type of laziness is when a person understands that it is necessary to do a particular job, but can not make himself do it. There is a reluctance to do something. Or a desire to do nothing. People literally feel the internal resistance and struggle. In psychology, this phenomenon is sometimes referred to the conflict of independent units of consciousness or intrapersonal conflict. A person can be represented as a set of sub-personalities, each of whom wants to strive for something. If their intentions are opposite, a person will really be “torn apart” because each sub-personality will pull him to his side.
What to do
In the process of working with this type of laziness efforts should be made in two ways. On the one hand – to increase motivation, and on the other – to eliminate internal conflict on the level of sub-personalities, literally negotiate with them. It’s a simple but very effective exercise designed to increase motivation: you define the activities which you don’t want to do because of lazyness. Then, by repeatedly asking the question “For what I need to do this activity?”, you associate it with a desirable goal of a larger scale.
Suppose you are too lazy to study German. You ask yourself the question: “For what I need to study?” – And the answer: “To be able to read German literature and communicate with native speakers.” Again, ask yourself the question: “For what you need to read German literature and communicate with native speakers?” In response : “To be fluent in German” … “Why …?” … – “To increase salary to … To secure the future of children … To be happy..” As a result, you have “to learn English in order to be happy.”
Often the reason of laziness is the fear. And no matter what it is – fear of the unknown or fear based on previous negative experience. Sometimes people are not afraid of anything negative, but they’re afraid of fame, success – all that pulls people from their traditional way of life.
Climbers have a saying: the one who was not afraid, is no longer with us. And this is true, because fear has a positive side – it protects us from the stupid, arrogant behavior. That is why you should not take fear as an illness to be cured, and that must be overcame – sometimes it must be taken as a friend who does not allow us to do something.
What to do
Improve the overall self-confidence and the ability to predict the possible difficulties that appear in the process of your activity, and think of ways of resolving them. Of course, all potentially possible complexity is impossible to predict, but in the process of thinking you mentally put yourself in this activity and correct a significant level of fear.
Any event that occures
in a person’s life is originally absolutely neutral – the man himself makes it positive or negative.
Lack of energy
It is logical that the lack of energy may be due to fear and lack of motivation, and much more. But more often it is a consequence of three factors: lack of sleep, poor diet and lack of regular physical activity. The correction of these parameters allows to radically get rid of laziness of this type.
What to do
The importance of sleep is difficult to overestimate: you need to sleep at least 7-8 hours. In diet it is recommended to follow three rules: do not eat fried, fatty and starchy foods, regularly eat vitamins and mineral supplements. It does not matter what physical activity you choose: running, athletics, football, yoga. You are free to choose what you like, the main thing is to do it on regular basis.
Perhaps the most striking example – a typical strategy of students preparing for exams – they try to learn everything exactly in the night before the exam, although it would seem far more logical to plan this process for a longer period of time. That is, a person needs to bring the situation to a very high level of mental stress, and when he exceeds a certain “barrier”, he begins to be active.
What to do
Basically, if you such a feature does not bother you, you can do nothing. Another thing – if it starts to hurt you. In this case, the best cure is to plan and execute accurately the plan. As a result, you’ll learn to do everything on time.
Deep psychological reasons
In this case, often psychological trauma and negative scenarios are received in childhood. Eric Berne wrote about it in his book “People who play games” and “Games People Play”.
What to do
Unfortunately, self-efficient work with this type of laziness is practically impossible. The only correct way is to find a good therapist or psychologist. The state of reluctance to do something can be a sign of mental (depression, neurosis) or physical (hypertension, endocrine problems) disease. In this case you’d better visit a doctor, because the vast majority of these diseases can be cured.
