Here are the stories of ten people who prove that it  is never too late to start, and success will come but a little bit later.

Ray Kroc, of McDonald’s founder

Till the age of 52 years he had been selling paper cups


“In 1954 I was 52 years old. I had diabetes and arthritis. They excised me the gall bladder and most part of the thyroid gland. But I believed in the future, “- Ray Kroc remembers the fateful moment when he met the McDonald brothers.
In addition to numerous diseases, he was deaf and poor. Kroc was a famous businessman, but his startups regularly failed. When in 1954 it took him 15 thousand in cash to buy a license for the distribution of “McDonald’s”, no bank gave him credit. Had mortgaged the house and insurance, then he lived 30 more years and earned 600 million.

Harland David Sanders (Colonel Sanders), KFC

At the age of 40 came up to cook fried chicken for visitors service station


The founder of the famous fast food chain had a complicated fate: he lost his father in an early age, his mother worked a lot, and  he was responsible for financial support in the house. He began to work being 10 years old, tried many specialties, and in the age of 12 he left home because he couldn’t get on with his stepfather. In general Colonel Sanders is the embodiment of the American dream.
“I think that fried chicken  is a Dish-Symbol of American Hospitality. That’s right – with capital letters. And I do not care who sits at my table – a king, a big cheese or a simple man. If a guest caame to you, your task is to feed him well “- said Harland Sanders.

Up to the age of 31 was a single mother on welfare


The idea of the novel came to her in 1990, in the next seven years, she lost her job, divorced and lived in poverty until she published the first novel of the series in 1997. Now she is the author of the best selling book in the UK and is a multimillionaire.

Amancio Ortega, owner of Zara

Up to 37 years worked as an assistant in the shop


 Amancio could not finish high school because his family was poor, and even in the age of 13 he started working at a store as a messenger. When he was 37 years old, Amancio opened his a knitwear factory.
At first, he and his wife Rosalia sewed robes, nightgowns and lingerie in the living room of their house. Once a customer has canceled an order for a large batch of laundry, and to save the business, the couple decided to sell their own underwear. So in 1975 they appeared the Zorba shop , Amancio was 40 years old then . In 2012, Bloomberg acknowledged Ortega the richest man in Europe – his holding company owns such brands as Zara, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Oysho, Pull & Bear, Zara Home, Stradivarius.

Harrison Ford, actor and producer

Up to the age of 30 was a carpenter


In 1968, Harrison Ford starred in Zabriskie Point, but all the scenes with his participation were cutted off. After that, he decided to leave acting career and became a carpenter until he accidentally met George Lucas and was invited to the shooting of the film “American Graffiti.”  At that time Harrison Ford was 30 years old.

Mary Kay Ash, Mary Kay founder

Yill the age of 45 worked as a sales agent


For 25 years she had been working as a sales agent and didn’t get promotion. She was 45 years old when she decided to retire and write a book about women and business. In the process of writing the book turned into a business plan for her ideal company, and it was decided to sell products for skin care. In 1963, Mary Kay and her husband founded the company Mary Kay Cosmetics with a starting capital of $ 5,000.
“I wanted to create a company that would provide every woman who has a family and children with an opportunity to control over their career,” – said Mary.

Henry Ford, founder of Ford Motor Company

Founded his company only being 40 years


Born in a family of immigrants from Ireland, in his youth he left home and went to work in Detroit. Up to 36 years he was a mechanical engineer in the company of Edison. The first car he designed in the age of 30 years, his own company he founded only ten years later.
The greatest success came with the launching of the company’s model Ford T in 1908, Henry Ford at the time was 45 years old.

Ursula Burns, CEO of Xerox

Up to 32 years old had been on the ground floor in the Xerox 


Ursula was born in a twilight zone in Manhattan – Lower East Side and spent her childhood in the “Baruch houses” – houses for the poor. She got her education and in 1980 came to the internship to the Xerox company. And in 2009, Ursula became the CEO and the first black woman to be a head of a US corporation.

Till the age of 30 had been selling shampoos and liquid for glass


He left school at the age of 12 years and sold newspapers, soap, shampoo and towels in hotels, founded with his brother Lenny the De-Ice-It company specialized on sailing sprays  with the car defroster, worked as a mortgage broker. Even in his own father was wondered at the spectrum of business interests of the young men, “Sheldon – used to say the old Boston taxi driver – you are like horse manure – you’re everywhere!”.
First, he created a computer exhibition in Las Vegas, and in 1988 established the corporation Las Vegas Sands – the world’s largest casino. At that time he was 55 years old.

Manoj Bhargava, founder of Energy 5-Hour Energy

Up to 30 years was a monk in a mountain monastery in India


And then he came to the US and became a businessman. He  founded a company, which produces 5-Hour Energy drink. His name is related to a major scandal because of the harmful effects of his drinks, but the story is not about that. Just imagine how he was able to move his life in another dimension becoming a billionaire after a life of a monk.

Andrea Bocelli, singer

Up to 33 years had been  playing the piano in bars


In the age of 12, became completely blind, his lifelong dream was to become an opera singer. To embody his dream, he went to Turin, where he studied with a famous tenor singing and in the evenings earned money for the playing piano in different music bands.
In 1992, Andrea successfully auditioned for the Italian rock star Zucchero. After this his demo song gets Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea’s career goes uphill. Now he is a famous singer and popularizer of opera music.

Ang Lee, director

Up to 36 years had been unemployed


He studied filmmaking in the United States and shooted a couple of successful student films. But  for next six years he had been unemployed. Only in 1990 (and then he already was 36 years old), his script won a contest, after which he began his directorial career. Now Ang Lee is famous all over the world, and you must have seen his films: “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “Hulk,” “Brokeback Mountain” and “Life of Pi”.

So our advice: do not get discouraged and keep looking. And remember the words of John. R. R. Tolkien: “Those who wander aren’t always lost.”
